Lucy Landers writes: My work is primarily drawing with an element of printmaking. I also use other media such as digital manipulation and collage in my working process. Restrictions have always been important to my working; in many cases the use of one line, one colour, the repetition of one shape or one width of the line itself.

The starting point on my work is usually a simple drawing, then digitally manipulating it to introduce an element of chance, the final image is always hand drawn. This maintains some of the original shapes and also breaks them down to create a more complex intricate form, similarly to printmaking, the end product is not always what was originally intended, adding and taking away elements to introduce depth and delicacy to the forms.

I take pleasure in transforming something so flat to create a real physicality, the labour intensive manipulation of materials joint with complex thought and process to create detailed, intricate yet delicate forms and shapes, with tone and substance, while maintaining a simple technique with an uncomplicated use of tools and colour creating the illusion of a 3 dimensional space on a 2 dimensional plane. I attempt to generate a visual curiosity, to engage and capture the viewer’s attention by luring them in to have a closer look, maintaining a sense of mystery and magic whist inviting them to create their own subjective opinion, they are essentially drawings of themselves.
